Some post Pre-Season loss thoughts

Football is back!  We are back baby, watching giant men crush each other shorten their lives and possibly permanently damage their grey matter.  Summer is still here in the great NW and with the Seattle Seahawks playing again it seems as if all is right with the world.  So here are a couple thoughts before Dad and I release our latest podcast sometime in the next couple of days!

Mr. McGough, reportedly has struggled in camp…..but I have to be honest…..That’s not what showed up on the field…..in MY OPINION.  Alex showed up and played behind the 2s and mostly the 3’s so what was the expectation.  He looked not horrible behind a make shift offensive line that was missing blocking assignments, not passing blitzes effectively and generally playing fairly poorly.  Alex was hitting his check downs, keeping his eyes down field and not just running.  He proved that he is athletic and can create out of nothing.  He didn’t throw an interception or fumble the ball.  I think this is good news and it would be interesting to see what he can do behind the 2’s or even the 1’s which is something I am positive we will see before the pre-season is over.  I continue to be a fan of this kid, while I am not in any way saying or advocating for him to supplant Russell I think his upside is incredible.

Rashaad Penny, although the numbers don’t show a great outing there were some signs.  As a fan you have to ask yourself and constantly remind yourself that that is what the pre-season is about.  It is NOT about cranking it all the way up and showing the league your cards.  But watching Penny bounce that run in the redzone to the outside for 7yds while out running smaller players that should be faster, was a thing of art work.  It gives you great hope going forward.  Although he struggled to find room later, I put more of that on the poor blocking and blitz recognition than I do on Penny’s ability to run the rock.  Also don’t forget, defense’s are usually ahead of where Offense is at this point of the season.  So….don’t pay attention to the stats at this point, watch the game….you tell me how he looks.

Defensive line, I think we are good and deep.  It was impressive to watch the defensive line move the line of scrimmage every play against every iteration that the Colts threw out there.  Specifically the 1’s.  Seattle consistently owned the line of Scrimmage….and not just a little.  Barkevious Mingo looked fast and exactly what we needed there, even while being double teamed and having Running Backs help the Tackle.  That kind of attention helps others get free.  And before we go any farther let’s also acknowledge that Indy while not a great Team has a GOOD offensive line.  They have spent time and money trying to get the right crew to protect Andrew Luck…..these guys are talented and good so when our 1’s dominate them…..I’m feeling pretty good.  Rasheem Green, looking good!  And not in the flashy sack stuff although that’s great too…his fundamentals look great.  This kid has some serious upside and I’m excited about what the future holds for him.  The rest of the fellas played as Dad and I have talked about for a while.  Solid.  Better than what the national conversation would have you believe.

Secondary play, well I loved it.  I love watching Tre Flowers.  He’s gonna be great.  I think he’s the starter by mid-season and it’s gonna be tough for opposing QB’s to choose where to throw.  T2 Was a bunch of fun to watch.  He was so much fun to watch in fact, that I think it has taken some of the stress out of an Earl Thomas holdout.  Sure Earl is Earl…..but if you don’t want to be a part of this and a leader in our locker room….I’m good.  Fine go then, fine I’m gone, fine go then, fine I’m gone (remember Waynes World).  I think that Earl probably watched the game and realized that these Seahawks are not going to miss Earl as much as Earl would like them too.

Bottom line folks, I’m excited for the season.  I’m encouraged by the competitive nature of this squad and I’m happier with this squad even if they go 8-8 than I am with last years squad.  I’d rather have the young hungry lion than the old lion sitting in the locker room being a bitch instead of the leader they should have been.  I’ll take 8-8 over what should have been 12-4 that somehow you found a way to dump to 9-7.  I don’t think these guys are going to be 8-8 by the way.  I think these guys are going to surprise some people and win between 9-11 games.  Hungry lions are dangerous.

A few minutes of Dumb Sh*t

Sparkling Hawk Flag

Dad and I had a good time doing the “stupid stuff” people say show not too long ago.  The problem is that the national media makes it so easy.  There are a bunch of people out there who write about the Seahawks but aren’t really paying attention to what’s ACTUALLY going on and that has to do with more than what’s going on with Earl.  It is more than Russell Wilson.  There is a team out there that has some potential and NO one is talking about that.  ANYWAY give this a listen let us know what you think.  Like Share Follow.  Check us out on Instagram and Twitter!  All under Seattlehawktalk

The Rest of the Offense Not Named Russell Wilson

So here’s another shot at a little more insight for what MAY be happening behind the doors at our favorite organization.  Dad and I chat a bit about the rest of the offense.  The national conversation has a tendency to revolve, start, stop, and everything in between with Russell Wilson…..this is not that.

Let’s remember that this is a team game.  This, as much as Russell’s agent would like you to believe, is not Russell-ball, this is Football team.  Doug Baldwin is still one of the premier WR in the entire NFL.  For my money I like him more than anyone else out there.  Yep, more than ANYONE.  I’m not even going to waste time listing people who I am ranking Doug ahead of, I know, I get it, He’s my guy.  His grasp of the passing game, effort, and leadership is second to NONE and he’s MY GUY.

Excited about the run game and in the same breath….I am excited about the O-Line!  You heard it hear.  I am excited about this group.  There isn’t turmoil, there isn’t turn-over.  There is continuity, leadership, and COMPETITION!  I couldn’t be more excited.

Don’t Be a Moron……

This is a saying that I say to myself and others OFTEN.  This is a saying that I find myself saying a lot as you read/hear some of the stupid ass things that some of the “prognosticators” are saying.  I don’t have anything VERY specific today, just the same old, same old lame theories of what Seattle is trying to do.  Or some of my favorites lately are some of the articles that are coming out that DIRECTLY CONTRADICT another article you’ve read somewhere else.  Is anyone paying attention?  I mean come on, how is it possible that Duane Brown is awesome, Ethan Pocic is part of the “best under 25″ team, Britt is a solid all pro, Fluker is a road grader, and Ifedi is on track to be one of the better lineman in the NFL AND STILL HAVE A CRAP OL?!!!!  Yeah I get it that is a run on sentence.  But come on seriously!  How can the individuals be solid and yet the team doesn’t work…..I doubt it….seems a little more coaching philosophy and game strategy to me.  Or how about the continued conversation about how, other than Doug Baldwin our receiving core is terrible?  Really?  Did Russell throw the ball to himself last year?  I mean everyone is sucking his nuts and raving about how amazing he is after last years amazing statistical season…..was no one on the other end of that pass?  I for one couldn’t be more excited about our receiving core.  I love Doug of course and for those of you that are learning or trying to learn the Wide Receiver position watch Doug, watch his routes, watch his blocking, watch what he does off the ball when plays go away from him.  I’m excited about Amarah Darboh is set to make a big step, mark my words.  I continue to be excited to see what Tanner McEvoy will do if given the chance.  I mean let’s just dream you little dreamers for a moment of a set with 6’6″ McEvoy and 6’5” B. Marsh lined up on the same side….Maybe even stick in a Vannett too……HOW WOULD YOU START TO GUARD THAT!?  Jaron Brown has been brought in and could see some good targets.  The point is I love this group.

We could go on like this all day…..point is DON’T BE A MORON.  Check out the athletic profiles of the people that we have.  Don’t just look at the stats, look beyond that and know  Pete is a great developer of talent.

We will have a podcast coming out soon so stay tuned.  As always like share follow!  Sparkling Hawk Flag
